Life in Chicago moves fast, and between work, social plans, and the constant city energy, keeping your space clean can quickly fall to the bottom of your to-do list. Whether you’re in a high-rise apartment or a cozy bungalow, finding time for a deep scrub is tough. That’s why we’ve put together this guide with authentic, helpful tips to make your home shine—and when you need backup, professional home cleaning is just a click away.
We know the struggle: you want a clean, organized home, but the hours just disappear. The good news? With a few smart strategies and the right approach, you can keep your place looking great without sacrificing your entire weekend. And if you ever need a hand, cleaning services in Chicago are here to save the day.
Start with the Right Tools
You don’t need expensive, fancy gadgets to get a deep clean. In fact, some of the best tools are simple and affordable. Microfiber cloths, a good vacuum, and a quality all-purpose cleaner are your best friends. For small spaces like apartments, multi-functional tools save room and time. If you’re overwhelmed, deep cleaning help can tackle the tough stuff while you handle the light daily upkeep.
Declutter First, Clean Second
Before you ever pick up a spray bottle, clear the clutter. Messy surfaces make cleaning harder and less effective. Spend ten minutes putting things away—mail, shoes, random items—and you’ll be amazed at how much easier the rest becomes. When you need a reset, apartment cleaning pros can help maintain that fresh feel.
Make a Plan That Works for You
Don’t try to clean everything at once. Break your space into zones: kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedroom. Tackle one zone per day. This makes the process manageable and less stressful. For busy Chicagoans, fast cleaning services are perfect for those weeks when you just need a quick refresh before guests arrive.
Kitchen Quick Wins
- Wipe down counters and stovetop after every meal to prevent buildup.
- Run the dishwasher at night so it’s ready to unload in the morning.
- Use a baking soda and vinegar paste to scrub stubborn stains on sinks.
Bathroom Blitz
- Spray shower walls with a daily cleaner to prevent soap scum and mildew.
- Keep a squeegee handy and use it after every shower.
- Replace toothbrush holders and soap dishes regularly to avoid grime.
Don’t Forget the Small Details
Sometimes it’s the little things that make a space feel truly clean. Wipe down light switches, doorknobs, and remote controls. Dust baseboards and blinds. These small touches elevate the whole room. If you find yourself thinking, “I wish I had someone to clean my apartment,” that’s a great sign it’s time to call in the pros.
Create a Routine You Can Stick To
Consistency is key. A 15-minute tidy-up each evening can prevent messes from piling up. Make your bed every morning. Do a quick sweep of high-traffic areas. These small habits make a huge difference. For deeper dives, schedule a cleaning with Jikas so you can focus on living your life.
Weekly Checklist for a Fresh Home
- Vacuum and mop all floors.
- Dust all surfaces, including shelves and electronics.
- Clean kitchen appliances inside and out.
- Wash bedding and towels.
- Wipe down bathroom mirrors and fixtures.

Dior right at Dollar Tree. From Dior to Chanel,
Rare Beauty, and even Patchology. Oh my gosh. I will share nothing in this store that is not a
10 out of 10 product. You know, if you’re at Do It on a Dime, you have all the tips and hacks. A
Dior dupe is hidden in plain sight. This glow up lip balm. It’s $1.25 and I’ve got to bring out the
Dior right away to share with you how this sheer pink balm has similar ingredients like cherry
oil and hydration for your lips. Not only is the packaging rave, also this product is bonkers
bananas good. It comes in several different colors. And right now, Dollar Tree actually has
two separate Dior style products. I don’t know if you’ve seen the lipsticks that are your perfect
natural color. These look like they’re clear, but when you put it on, it will change your
lips to be the perfect shade for you. This is a really great find, and the brand is Be Pure.
This product changes to your unique lip color, which is almost the exact concept behind Dior
Addict Lip Glow. It’s paraben and phthalate free, and the rose gold packaging with the little emblem
has a very high-end beauty counter look. Dollar Tree also sells KC brand lip oil. I paired these
two together, and here you can see the natural tint that it gave my lips. What do you think about
my perfect color according to this product? I want this video to knock your socks off, and it’s only
going to keep getting better. Dollar Tree with the Rare Beauty dupes. This is a $25 Rare Beauty
product that Dollar Tree has from the LA’s Color brand. The packaging is also so similar. This is
a blush highlighter. Love this one. Rare Beauty is about $25 and the liquid blush is everything for
summer. The same blush nearly is at Dollar Tree right now for $1.25. I tried it out. The pigment
is fantastic. Not to be missed product. Maybe you’re not a big makeup person. This video hits
everything Dior. I kid you not. When it comes to sunglasses, check the front of Dollar Tree right
now. You can find Dior style sunglasses. Now, this might sound crazy, but just sit with me for a
second. I picked up these. I’ve worn them out and about and absolutely love them. This is the Dollar
Tree sunglass next to the Dior sunglasses that are $490. This is such a good score. So, let’s put it
together. Dollar Tree blush, lipstick, sunglasses, and the hat. You guessed it. And I saw these
hats for $3 and I was like, this is so cute. Yep, the hat is from Dollar Tree, too. And it’s
totally giving Dior chic. In Dollar Tree, sometimes things are hidden. Look at
this. We have bougie tissue boxes. I mean, if I’m going to make a Chanel and Dior video,
look at how pretty this is for your car. These are absolutely stunning. Pop these pretty babies
right in your console. You are that girl. Okay. Always look for the pink iridescent packaging.
This is Maybelline brand. Everything in this is a name brand drugstore brand that’s not supposed
to be at Dollar Tree, but is leftover overstock. The colors are sometimes limited, but these are
great products. Keep your eyes peeled. Remember, iridescent packaging are name brands from OPI to
Sally Hansen to yes, even Maybelline lipsticks and everything is $1.25. We’re coming back to makeup
in a second, but first there is a dupe you need to know. Patchology face masks are incredible. I love
them to rehydrate your face. They’re fantastic and really expensive. Dollar Tree’s Spa Essentials brand
has a deep collagen overnight hydrogel mask and they have these under eye masks. You’re going
to save a lot. These are great. This is the brand you want to look for. Also, when you see these
boxes of jelly eye masks, they are fantastic. Look at this packaging. It is so well put together. You
get lots of under eye masks. This is a great bang for your buck. And I cannot tell the difference
between this and the expensive versions. This is so exciting. They have these magnetic
dryer sheet holders. This is acrylic. Definitely giving Container Store. But what I love about this
is if you have a small space, you could also use this to hold makeup products on any magnetic
surface. This is awesome. The hair tools are fantastic. These are creaseless clips. Now, these
are about $12 or $13 at Target. They work just as well here. It’s really great for pinning your hair
back. I mean, genuinely, all of their hair brands, especially Sophie brand, are some of my favorites.
You could go to Anthropologie and get two clips for $13 or get clips and face masks for $3. Which do
you prefer? I mean, I’m saying all of the Dollar Tree hair supplies really remind me of Dior.
They remind me of Chanel. All of the trending styles. Do you know what the problem with them
is? They’re in the Dollar Tree. Like, literally, the location is downgrading their elegance.
Okay, this headband is absolutely gorgeous and shimmery. Take all of these items out of
the Dollar Tree like I did here. Put them in a pretty gift box and you’re looking like you’re
receiving something from Dior or Chanel. And all of it is from the Dollar Tree. Save hundreds,
thousands. I’m not even exaggerating. There’s a $400 hairbrush. It’s right here. That is supposed
to make your hair silky smooth. You can find a similar dupe at Dollar Tree. All you want to look
for is the dual bristle like this one. That’s it. Dollar Tree hacks you need to know. The eyelashes
here are great and they have Ardell brand. They have really expanded their beauty section over the
last two months or so. I love Ioni lashes. I love Ardell lashes. They even have Duo lash glue here.
You’re going to save $7 compared to other stores. And a Dollar Tree tip is to look for the lash bar.
This should be right by the front of your store and it’s like in one of these little containers
here. This is where you’re going to find the most natural looking lashes and you’re even going to
find setting spray. These two products are great. Eyelashes are really expensive and the eyelashes
I wear in videos are very natural ones just like these that give you a bit of wisp. A single set of
lashes at Sephora will run you $14 to $15. You can get them at Dollar Tree for $1.25 and achieve the
exact same look. And their eyelash glue is really good, too. Look for Duo brand as well as i brand.
Also, the Beauty Intuition mascara is excellent. I’ve tried this out because I’m really worried
about fallout, like I don’t want it coming down on my cheeks. This one is a dupe of Maybelline’s
Lash Sensation Sky High Mascara. I can highly recommend this one. All of this is new at Dollar
Tree. Within the last couple of months, they’ve come out with things like this Stay Defined Matte
Brow Pencil. This is by KC brand and it’s a dupe of Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pencil, which is
like $25. Getting this for $1.25. I just want to show you how well this works. KC is not a Dollar
Tree made brand. It’s really good. When you see it in store, definitely scoop it up. This is the
KC Flawless Translucent Setting Powder. This is a big savings. Marie Claire Precision Eyeliner.
I’m wearing it right now. It’s a really good one. Be Pure’s Setting Spray and Primer. This is
a brand new product and they even come in glass containers, which is awesome. This is a dupe
of Milk brand. These are hyaluronic acid and niacinamide. Very similar ingredients. And I again
love that this comes in a glass bottle. Hear that? This one is aloe vera and cucumber extract. These
are very highly rated products. I recommend them, too. So, adding up all this video together,
we’re talking makeup, mascara, eyebrow pencils, lashes. If I took all of the products you see on
screen and use them with my makeup routine, this was my result. I really like the lip color and
the lashes especially. It’s hard to believe this is just $11.25 in makeup. An unsung hero of Dollar
Tree is their Spa Luxury Whipped Shave Cream. And they have two new scents for the summer. I’m so
excited to try these. They have dulce de leche and they have a strawberry cream. Love this product.
This would retail for a lot at Sephora. Life is too short. This is a little luxury. I’ve been
using this product for years and I’m loving the new scents. Another amazing place to look for name
brand products is in the men’s section. They’re easy to forget. Right here is a Stenson Spirit
face and beard wash. This retails for a lot more on Amazon. You save 3/4 of the retail price.
I always look for the hidden gems and they’re rolling more and more of these out. I want to know
in the comments like when you’re in Dollar Tree, are you seeing some of these products? A
lot of the comments I get are, “Catherine, I can’t find what you’re finding.” But one thing
I hope you find are some fun Disney products. These are very quality because Disney does not
put their name on anything that is not actually really good. I found these Wicked eyeshadows and
the pigment was fantastic. Just trust. To me, these are two known dupes, but they might not
be known to you. They have Brazilian Soul, and this is a dupe of Sol de Janeiro. They
also have this hydro plus water gel, and this is a Neutrogena dupe. Both of these products have
rave reviews. Dollar Tree is bringing back all of The Ordinary dupes, too. The packaging is almost
exactly the same. The product is great. I’ve used it for a long time. I’d also like to point out
a lot of Dollar Tree products are paraben-free, don’t test on animals, sulfate free, phthalate
free, like they are really good stuff. You’ve just got to look at ingredients and know where
to look. This is a cosmetic vacuum travel bottle. Super cool. These makeup brush palette cleaners
are wonderful. You can use this like right in the palm of your hand to clean your brushes. If you
struggle with breakouts or just your skin feels kind of flaky, cleaning your brushes can make
such a huge difference. You should be doing this at least once a month. Dollar Tree really said
Touchland brand dupes. Let’s go. They came out with these incredible little Touchland dupes and
they have like super cute sparkles on them. This is pink kiwi splash scented and like it just, I
know it’s not smell-o-vision but this stuff is so wonderful. And look at this. They even have little
carrying cases and they even have charms for your hand sanitizers. I mean adorable. The scents
on these have been so good recently. My store has a lot of stock right now. These make great
gift ideas, great end-of-year teacher gift ideas, too. And really, at $1.25, you would spend close
to $20 if you bought this from Touchland. Power Stick is an amazing Dollar Tree brand, and
they have limited time released scents. I was so excited to see these. We have Pink Petals and
Pearls. We also have Lemongrass Lullaby. And they even have a Roseberry Romance. It has like kind
of a sweet tart fragrance to put in a bathroom. You can even put this in a clear container.
So beautiful. Now, let’s talk nails for just a minute cuz you want to know what’s good, right?
Dollar Tree’s cuticle oil is excellent. And the best brands of nail polish from Dollar Tree are going
to be KC brand. And at the front of the store, you also might spot Chrome nail powder. I have
never personally used this, but I have heard it is fantastic from nail techs online. I’ve also
seen these nail files and just so many fun hidden products. Now, we’re moving on to some home decor
finds, which I think you’re really going to like. They have it. Oh my gosh. See, I was looking for
some viral finds that I saw online of Couture and Dior little mini canvases. These are so cute
and I think in the right room could be really fun. I love the beautiful Chanel flower boxes.
These make such great gift ideas. And you can actually make a DIY version all from Dollar Tree.
If you see the mini black boxes with roses inside, this is such an easy upgrade. I used my Cricut to
print a Chanel logo. Now, I can’t sell this online because Chanel would not like that, but just
making it for my own purposes is totally fine and super fun. This makes great decor. I think
this would look beautiful in a bathroom stacked on top of books. I would love to know where you would
put it. If you want more videos like this, leave it a big thumbs up, my beautiful friend. You have
and you are more than enough. I’ll catch you soon.
