Life in Chicago moves fast. Between work, family, and trying to enjoy everything this city has to offer, keeping your home clean can feel like a never-ending task. If you’ve ever wished you could just wave a magic wand and have a spotless space, you’re not alone. The good news? You don’t need a wand—you just need the right routine, a few smart hacks, and a reliable team to call when life gets hectic. Whether you’re looking for apartment cleaning tips or just want to make your place feel fresh without spending all weekend scrubbing, we’ve got you covered.
We love a good DIY project that brings joy and creativity into the home. Recently, we stumbled on a fantastic idea for a lemonade stand using all Dollar Tree products—and it got us thinking about how small, fun touches can make your space feel brand new. But before you dive into your next craft, let’s talk about keeping your home clean and organized, especially if you’re in Chicago and short on time.
Why a Clean Home Matters (Especially in Chicago)
Living in a bustling city means your home is your sanctuary. But dust, dirt, and clutter can pile up fast. That’s why having a plan for regular maintenance is key. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t worry—you can always rely on professional home cleaning to handle the heavy lifting while you focus on what matters.
Quick Cleaning Hacks Inspired by DIY Fun
Just like building a lemonade stand from scratch, cleaning your home can be broken down into simple steps. Here are a few tips to keep your space sparkling, whether you’re prepping for a party or just tidying up after a busy week:
- Start with a plan: Before you grab your supplies, list what needs attention. A focused approach saves time and energy.
- Use the right tools: Sponges, scrub pads, and microfiber cloths can make a huge difference. Look for deals on multi-packs to save money.
- Tackle one room at a time: Trying to do everything at once is a recipe for burnout. Break it down room by room.
- Don’t forget the details: Baseboards, light switches, and under the couch—these spots collect dust but are often overlooked.
- Make it fun: Put on music, open the windows, or reward yourself afterward. Cleaning doesn’t have to be a chore.
If you’re ever feeling stuck or just don’t have the time, cleaning services in Chicago can step in and take care of everything for you.
How to Keep Your Kitchen Clean After a DIY Project
Let’s be honest—DIY projects can get messy. From paint spills to dust bunnies, your kitchen might need extra love after a craft session. Here’s how to clean up fast:
- Wipe down surfaces immediately: Sticky residues and paint splatters are easier to clean when fresh. Use a gentle scrubber to avoid scratches.
- Vacuum or sweep first: Get rid of loose debris before mopping or wiping. This prevents smearing dirt around.
- Deep clean appliances: Your fridge, oven, and microwave might have picked up some dust. Give them a quick wipe-down.
- Organize as you go: Put away supplies and tools immediately. A clutter-free space feels cleaner instantly.
For those times when you need deep cleaning help, don’t hesitate to call in the pros. They’ll handle the tough stuff so you can enjoy your new project without the cleanup stress.
Spring Cleaning Tips for Chicago Apartments
Spring is the perfect time to refresh your space. Chicago winters can be harsh, and your home deserves a reset. Here’s what to focus on:
- Windows and blinds: Let the sunshine in by cleaning windows inside and out. Dust blinds with a microfiber cloth or use a duster attachment.
- Closets and storage: Donate what you don’t use and reorganize. A tidy closet makes mornings easier.
- Floors and carpets: Vacuum thoroughly, and consider a steam clean for high-traffic areas.
- Kitchen and bathroom: These rooms need extra attention during spring cleaning. Scrub grout, descale faucets, and wipe down cabinets.

DIY Cleaning Hacks That Actually Work
We love a good hack, and some of our favorites come from everyday items you probably already have at home. For example, using a mix of vinegar and water works wonders on glass surfaces. A little baking soda can scrub away stubborn stains. And microfiber cloths? They’re a game-changer for dusting.
But let’s face it—sometimes you just need someone to clean my apartment so you can focus on the fun stuff, like crafting your next lemonade stand or spending time with family.

Dollar Tree got these adorable paper awnings. They are getting so ready for spring and summer. I’ve got an amazing whimsy video. We are making a lemonade stand using all Dollar Tree products. Expect to have a lot of fun and get lots of creative ideas. Let’s hit it. I want this to be super classy and elegant, which means we’re going to run to the back and we’re going to grab wooden crates. Not only are these versatile, but they’re $5 cheaper at Dollar Tree than in other stores. But before we get to our stand, I’ve got to share with you this brand new stand that dropped in my Dollar Tree with these incredible name brand 3M sponges. This is a two pack of fastrying non-scratch sponges. These are $1.50. This is a good deal. I had to check online and these retail for $4 to $5 a pack in other stores. I really like the pop-up sponges as well as the Doby scrubbing pads. I think these make a super cool gift, too. They come flat and then you get them wet and these puff up and they are ready to scrub and clean in your kitchen. Oh, look at how cute these are. These are adorable. I actually putting this with the sponges for Mother’s Day gift, don’t you think? Like, and speaking of drinks, they are launching the cutest finds for summer. Again, I’m not sponsored by Dollar Tree. These are just the things that I love. These popsicle cross bodies were so cute. What would you use these for? I have so many quick ideas coming up, including an amazing placemat hack. But first, I have to share with you some of my favorite finds. They have lots of really fun wood signs, but I’m really gonna go for like a Nancy Meyers inspired aesthetic. I love those awnings so much. And we’re gonna go everything based off of that. All right, follow me. The base of our lemonade stand is going to be wood crates. These are more American Girl doll size. We’re going to go the full-size wood crates. These are made in the USA and they are cheaper than they are at Walmart. Four of these together is going to help create our base. And I’ve got tons of hacks, so stay tuned. This idea could work for a birthday party, a baby shower, a wedding. I think really the sky is the limit. Align crates in opposite directions and reinforce with a zip tie or two. You’ve got a nice steady base. And there is my very curious dog copper. And then I’m going to take this crate and put it on top here. This crate right there. So, we’ve got lemonade or like Lucy the psychiatrist. Now, we got to soup this thing up. And it might not be what you expect. We came here for the broom handles. I’m going to grab two of these because I need something to support our awning. And I need to attach these somehow to our wooden crates. So, I’m going to grab some of these broom holders. I’ve got a super cute idea. Truly, everything in this video you can do from the Dollar Tree. Our awning will be supported by broom handles. And I put two of these on each side just for extra reinforcement. The sticky on these, if you didn’t know, is actually awesome. with the brim handle. Dollar Tree sells color duct tape. I’m gonna get it in white so we can cover this to give it a nice clean and very Nancy Meyers aesthetic. I already had a lot of these items on hand, so I didn’t have to buy anything new, but you just lay your broom handle right over the duct tape and then run your hand along it. I actually used two pieces to cover it entirely. Clip these right into the side. And I love that this is sturdy enough for little hands. And now I have the two supports for my awning. I just had to make sure they were even. Now, before you’re questioning this, hold on. The Mother’s Day section of Dollar Tree is so cute this year. And for our little lemonade stand, I need two picture frames because I want to have a menu board. We’re going to put that right in here. And I’m also going to grab this little 4×6 frame. In case you didn’t know, there’s a super cool charity called Alex’s Lemonade Stand. It’s nationwide. If you have any lemonade stand in front of your house, all you have to do is create a little QR code. People can donate and it goes directly to childhood cancer research, which I think is so cool. A great way to give back while you’re having fun. I made these images right in Canva to put on top of our crates. Dollar Tree baskets. These are perfect. Now, I already have some at home. Use what you’ve got. But if I can arrange the wood crates, so some of them are facing forward with our lemonade supplies, and some of them are behind, we can have some easy storage. All right. I think we should put together some drinks and some snacks to be able to sell to, especially if the proceeds go to charity. It’s so fun when like you have a little idea in your head, like all the things you can find that go along with it. These are really cute lemon tablecloths. They also have these drying mats, but I don’t think I need these for this project. But what I definitely need is a way to dispense our lemonade. They have these really cute dispensers. Ava’s environmentally sustainable drinkear products. That’s cool. I absolutely love Dollar Tree’s pin wheels. I think they’re so cute and whimsical. If we’re going to go lemonade though, I think some of these will look really cool and it will help bring people to our stand. The boys are so excited about the lemonade stand. I’m going to surprise them when they get home from school. I absolutely love the Dollar Tree lemon glassear and their dishwear. These are so adorable. They bring these back every year. I’ve got a really cool recipe for lemon postettes. These are so easy, so cheap. You have to try this. Whether you’re making your own lemonade stand or just getting inspired by the gorgeous lemon products at Dollar Tree, these are expensive, high-end plates that are mimicked by Dollar Tree finds. And I want you to try this lemon pette recipe. All you need is heavy cream, lemon zest, and sugar. Add your heavy cream and sugar to a bowl and whisk in your lemon zest. Simmer on low heat, give it a quick sift, and then add lemon juice to your mixture. I’ll be sure to put the complete recipe below. You’re going to pour this in cleared out half lemons or in mini Dollar Tree ramicans. This is an incredible lemon pette that is so delicious and creamy. You can’t go wrong with this recipe. It’s perfect for summer. There are so many adorable lemon products right now in store. So, definitely keep your eyes peeled. And I have to bring copper into this, too. I’m going to use this placemat. I’ve got a really cool idea. Check it out. If you have a pet, you have to try this easy trick with so many designs. I fold over the placemat into a triangle shape and then I draw a lines so I can cut a nice straight one. Then I’m going to fold over the top edge so there’s a few inches of overhang. I remove the green backing and you can scale this depending on how big or small your pet is or maybe even a cat. A very patient cat I would say. Then I used heat and bond ironon adhesive. All you have to do is set this on your fabric and you just need heat to be able to adhere it. This is for my non-sewing loves. Slip this over your pet’s collar and be sure to give them a nice, wonderful scratch before application. Copper appreciates this. And then you can add on your bandana. It never comes untied, which is great. I think this is so adorable with the lemons. I loved providing Copper some treats so he could have a little photo shoot with me. He is such a cute guy and excited to join us. We have lemon heads. And I’m just going to look down here for like niche lemon candy. Okay, if you are a stan, a long-term viewer, you know how much I love me a circus peanut. I’m obsessed with circus peas. They have lemon circus peanuts. How cute is this? And if you’ve been a superstand, you know Charlie is obsessed with Swedish fish. Look, they have lemonade Swedish fish. Most of the food at Dollar Tree is still 125. I’m going to pick up some lemon pies, too. And this is so fun. Quintessentially southern. And this is going to be super cool to do a little DIY lemonade. I’m going to grab three of these for $3. Then I’m going to grab some of their larger sodas. They even have some really cool kind of like Mexican mango drinks. We can make little mixes together. Putting something together super fun. Kids just like a sweet taste, so it doesn’t really matter anyway. And if this has 10 servings, this is 100 oz of water. Mathing. I’m mathing. Okay. They have a citrus press here if you want a fresh squeezed lemon. This is one of those things where like if somebody says octopus, then you start seeing octopuses everywhere. Now that I’ve said lemon, lemon is everywhere at the Dollar Tree. Look at this. This little pot mitt. These are so cute. See lemon scented trash bags. We’ve got lots of lemons. We got to bring some blue back into this situation. I love obviously the party section. And look at this. Just look. We got our awning. And we got our blue cups. And we got super cool blue plates. And we even have blue party napkins. This is such a good vibe. Back to our assembly on these awnings. I needed two to extend the width of the crates. I took off two scallops and then I could overlap them. And I just use some simple glue. I want to know in the comments if you ever had a lemonade stand as a kid. I was really excited to surprise Owen with this because he loves lemonade so much. I remember having one when I was about 10 or so, or maybe you were somebody who sold Girl Scout cookies or popcorn for the Boy Scouts. I thought that this would work really well for both of those things, too. Fun, whimsy, and I love that these awnings are really affordable. I attached this to our brim handles. And I did that using clips I also got from Dollar Tree. I noticed it was sagging in the middle. So, I went to the crafter square and I grabbed these wooden dowels. I could put them at an angle right against the awning. And I just added duct tape to this. Now, I know this does not look very pretty right now. In fact, it looks a little bit messy, but that’s okay because we’re going to cover it up. I grabbed these vines from my stash. Yes, they came from Dollar Tree. And then I added a little scallop to the top to cover up our clips. I love these Dollar Tree wooden beaded garlands. And we’ve been testing out a lot of their products, including the drip dispensers. I wanted to make sure that they didn’t leak. And literally, every single product in this video can be found at Dollar Tree. I covered up the sides with these really cool pin wheels as well as some Dollar Tree ribbon. And when in Rome, right, Dollar Tree does sell plant stands, but I think these make really great stools, especially for small kid bodies. They can sit down next to the lemonade stand before they serve it. Owen came home from school and I was so excited to share with him this adorable stand. This truly would have been stuff of dreams when I was a kid, and he was so excited to get started. Unfortunately, we did have a little bit of rain, so I promised him we’d do it next weekend. And I’m sure this one won’t go at it alone. He’s already planning on recruiting some of the neighbors. >> Alex’s lemonade stand is a charity that’s raised $300 million. >> What a fun spring and summer activity. Please cross your fingers for us that we don’t have rain and the temperatures are warm enough that somebody would want to stop by and get some delicious lemonade, which I can definitely promise we’re going to need to get more because there’s been a lot of testing going on at our house. I also love that this can disassemble and be stored easily in the garage. We love challenging ourselves with this all Dollar Tree product and I hope you enjoyed it as much as us. If you would like to support Owen’s lemonade stand, the link will be down below. 100% of proceeds go right to charity, my beautiful friend. If nobody has told you today, guess what? You are enough. I’ll get to you.
