Feeling overwhelmed by the clutter in your Chicago apartment or home? Between work, family, and the hustle of city life, finding the time and energy for a proper clean can feel impossible. You deserve a space that feels calm and refreshing, not chaotic. The good news is that with a few smart systems and the right help, a spotless home is within reach.
We all crave that “fresh start” feeling at home—a space that’s organized, clean, and genuinely peaceful. Whether you’re in a Lincoln Park apartment or a suburban Chicago home, the challenge is real: life gets busy, and clutter accumulates fast. Inspired by savvy organizing hacks, we’ve compiled practical, budget-friendly tips to help you reclaim your space. And remember, when the project feels too big, you can always get a boost from a professional home cleaning service.
Start Simple: Dollar Store Finds for Big Impact
You don’t need a big budget to make a big change. Some of the best organizers can be found for just a few dollars. Start with basics like tank top organizers and giant storage bags for holiday decor or garlands. For just a few dollars, you can bring order to a chaotic closet or storage area.
Bathroom Bliss: Create a Spa-Like Retreat
Your bathroom should be a sanctuary, not a stressor. Start your morning right by decluttering drawers with clear acrylic organizers. Use stackable bins under the sink to maximize vertical space and finally see all your products. For a luxurious touch, repurpose the wooden lid from a candle atop a jar to create a beautiful, unified container for Q-tips or cotton balls. Every small, organized space is a win. If the thought of scrubbing tiles and deep-cleaning grout holds you back, consider booking some deep cleaning help to get that truly fresh foundation.
Kitchen & Pantry Power: Where Function Meets Style
A chaotic kitchen makes cooking a chore. The goal is visibility. In the pantry, use uniform containers for staples like rice and lentils. Lazy Susans ($5 turntables are a game-changer!) make items in corners accessible. Use mesh metal containers for cans and woven baskets for snacks. For the fridge, simple systems win. Use clear acrylic bins with handles to group similar items, making it easy to find what you need and see what’s running low. Keeping this high-traffic area clean is easier when it’s organized, but for the heavy lifting, a reliable cleaning service near me can handle the post-organization wipe-down and sanitization.
Creative Solutions for Every Corner
Think outside the bin! Look for multi-use items like metal garden hooks, which are perfect for organizing pants, skirts, or belts in a closet. A small, powerful $5 desktop vacuum is perfect for quickly cleaning crumbs from kitchen drawers. For a beautiful and functional entryway “drop zone,” use decorative trays or wall art with hooks for keys, sunglasses, and mail.
Conquer the Laundry Room & “Drop Zone”
These utility spaces often become catch-alls. Designate a purpose for every area. Use wall hooks for brooms and mops, and labeled bins for cleaning supplies, dog bags, or sports equipment. A simple cord organizer can tame the mess of appliance cords instantly. The mental relief of a sorted laundry room is immense. If you’d rather spend your weekend relaxing than sorting, you can easily schedule a cleaning to tackle these forgotten spaces.
The Real Benefit: More Time & Less Stress
Getting organized isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a gift to your future self. Did you know an organized, clean space can eliminate up to 40% of housework? Every item you put in its place saves you time searching later. Clearing the clutter reduces mental load, creating a calmer, more manageable home environment. It’s a powerful form of self-care.
Sometimes, the best first step is to clear the slate. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of stuff or the dirt that’s accumulated, hiring a Chicago cleaning company like Jikas can provide that crucial reset. Once your home is deeply cleaned, maintaining it with these simple organizing systems becomes so much easier.

If you’re looking for a fresh start, I’ve got you. Tons of organizing ideas, the best of the best from Do It on a Dime from the Dollar Tree and beyond. And every single thing I share with you in this video actually works. This is the good stuff. The stuff that’s going to make you feel great and get ready to tackle your home. >> Seriously, this is amazing. >> Wow. Oh my gosh. Yes. >> If you’re new here, welcome to the feelood place and do it on a dime. Post holiday storage, run to Dollar Tree and get two items. Their tank top organizer and their giant storage bags. These come with a zipper. Not only for $1.50 is this great to organize your ornaments, it’s also great for storing garlands. All of this organization can be done for less than $5. My friend, today we are tackling your entire house room by room. But first, I want to start out with some brand new products that Dollar Tree is just launching in 2026. You remember these Walmart bins, right? They are some of my favorites for organization. Dollar Tree dropped an almost identical product that is even cheaper. Y’all, these are fantastic and offer significant savings. And yes, the quality is the same, if not better. They are $3 for the small ones, five for the large. And all of the laundry closet essentials got a revamp and they’re still 125 a piece. Look at how cute these are. I also love the over basket labels. These come with the label cards, too. They are fantastic. All stores are getting these in tan, navy, and this gray. Similar product is now $8.84 at Walmart. The fact that these are $5 and don’t sacrifice quality. And these linen bins are still $1.25 each. Why? Because they’re in the laundry section. These prices are incredible. Don’t miss them. In my experience, the fabric bins are better for lighter products. But you can take a locker bin and put it inside of the fabric bins to give it more durability. I’ve done this for years around my house. It’s the do it on a dime secret. Try it. It’ll change your life. Cuz listen, you came to this channel to actually have systems that work. If you feel unmotivated, you have made it to the right place. And I’ve got something totally free, a complete homeg guided declutter just for you. But more on that in a minute. I was gobsmacked in store when I saw these vintage style rugs for $5 each. These are washable and a designer brand, Badgely Mishka. You can find this on Wayfair. And these retail for a lot. The fact that these were just $5 in so many designs. I brought them home to try them out. You got to keep your house clean to keep it organized, right? Highly recommend. Spring items are out and I want you, my friend, to go to the garden section and look for the metal garden hooks. They come in white now. These are excellent for organizing pants in a closet, skirts, scarves, and belts. They even have these mini packs, too, in the closet essentials section. And in the outdoor section, brand new product for $5. These plant trolleys. These are beautiful for their intended use, but there’s a really cool hack you can do with these. So, I went to this under the stairs very crowded area to help out this sweet family and their home business. I use plant trolleys under their big seed containers. They grow micro greens from home. They can move it around in what would be a lost storage area. And then the rest of it, I put up these dollar store curtains and I did this IKEA shoe hack. Check this out. >> All right, here we go. Oh my gosh. For all of >> Oh my gosh, this is amazing. And it is so like my style and so cute. So these Oh my god, THAT WAS ON MY CURVE. I KNOW. Creative under the stairs solution everyone could love. Sometimes when you move the bigger items in a small space, the little items can actually work. This family business really just needed a simple solution. And when it comes to simple, this is a brand new Dollar Tree product that is so great, hands down, by itself. These snack boxes, they’re $5 each, an airtight seal. This is rivaling what I’m seeing at IKEA at such a great price. I’d love to know how you’d use them. Calendars are $2, but they’re better than they’ve ever been, including these weekly planners, which are some of my favorites. They have so many cute designs. I came home with this adorable gingham one, and I’m really excited to use it this year. They also have larger calendars that have beautiful photos. I don’t know if you’re more an outdoor travel person or you’re like kitties and puppies. Let me know below. But 2026 is your year, friend. We’re going to get organized. Do it together. If you’re clicking on this video, this is your sign. This video is brought to you by Do It On a Dime’s Fresh Start Power Week. All of this has an over $100 retail value. And this week only, it’s just $27. Act fast. If you are looking to finally get organized and to truly love your home again and you like the positivity found here, I think you will absolutely love this. It’s an incredible way that I get to support you and you get to support this channel. I can’t imagine something more meaningful than getting to encourage you on this journey. I said we were going to tackle the whole house. I was not kidding. We’re going to start off with the bathroom. These shower caddies are $7 each, brand new, come with suction cups. I highly recommend them. Another brand new find you can use in the bathroom are these clothes lines. I love the Dollar Tree clips. They used to sell these by the cash register. They’re some of the best. But this is attached to a high quality bungee cord. It’s great for drying clothes and I think it would be really great to bring for travel, too. Go to the cutlery section and look for this cutlery organizer. Grab some magnetic buttons from the crafter square. These are great on the side of the organizer in your bathroom. It’s awesome for storing bobby pins and my favorite way to use this product is for your hair tools. Just $6 to an organized space. Grab your favorite Dollar Tree candle and save those lids because they fit perfectly on top of jars. Grab a candle. Dragon fruit. This one smells really good, but really you just want to look for the candles with the wooden lids. Then after you’ve burned said wonderful candle, take the lid, pop it on top of a Dollar Tree cuff, and use it to store your Q-tips. This is so beautiful, and nothing goes to waste. If you’re looking to jump start yourself in the new year, in my experience, starting in the bathroom is such a great place to be because you go there every single morning and you deserve to start your morning in a beautiful way. I love the Dollar Tree clear acrylic organizers for your bathroom drawers. These are so fantastic. And they also have larger in the plus section stacking containers that are great. Have you tried the Dollar Tree stacking bins under your sink? Now, these are stable. In my last video, I shared with you the $125 version. The $3 version is great in a bathroom. It really maximizes your vertical space, especially when you’re dealing with lots of product. You can actually see everything, and that’s how you know you’re going to use it. I used one of the woven baskets off to the side and these organizers that I showed you. These drawers are notoriously hard to organize. Do you have any really narrow drawers like this? These bins are excellent for simplifying and they’re low profile. And here’s something I found to be true. Every small space that you organize in your house is a declaration saying, “I am worth it.” The drawer isn’t just organized. For me, it’s kind of proof that you can do hard things. You can make a decision, make something better. Every time you show up for yourself, even in small ways, you’re building a life that’s lighter, stronger, and if nobody has cheered you on today, let me be that person. Has your Dollar Tree brought back the bamboo litted containers? These are so great for bathroom essentials. We spent about $75 on this entire project. This counter looks amazing. Everything is so clean and open. All of the items on it were thrifted, but I think the highlight are the beautiful Iselas that are blooming. I mean, this looks like something in a beautiful hotel. and then just pulling out items that she had in the closet. And I often get asked when I do these videos, what is the grand total that you spent for everything you see, including all the furniture, all of the elements, the art, and yes, even the organization. I spent a grand total of $74. You can really do it on a dime. Also, I love the under cabinet lighting because you can actually see what you have. So, as you’re cleaning out things and getting a fresh start for this new year, consider adding this to your dark spaces. All of the underc cabinet lights at Dollar Tree are still $5. This beats Amazon’s price. This beats Walmart’s price. Listen, if I am sharing it in a video, I wanted to actually save you money and I want it to make your life better. Even if you have a space that’s not ideal, that’s okay, too. The next thing I want to talk about are the Dollar Tree peel and stick wallpapers. Oh my goodness. In 2025, I use this all over for inside of drawers. I use this on the back of bathroom walls. I use this in powder rooms. Their peel and stick options are fantastic. These are Main Street wallpapers. They have so many new designs this year and they’re bringing them back. So, if these have not hit your store yet, be sure to check back. I’m going to use these in a bathroom. I used 15 sheets on this entire project. And what I love about the Dollar Tree wall decals is they’re easy to cut down just with regular scissors. This pattern aligns really well and so the seams are not evident. You remember the before, hey? I just want to encourage you that your dream space could really be just one quick DIY away. And when it comes to peel and stick, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. The number one bestseller from 2025 that is in all of your homes is peel and stick mirror border. Now, this is from Amazon, but it’s at a Dollar Tree price. You can get this for less than $10 and you get a big chunkus roll. like I still have some left over. But if you have a builder grade mirror or just an old space or maybe you’re renting and you need something that’s removable, I highly recommend this product. It looks great when it goes up. It completely changes a space on a dime. And I’m the type of person I don’t want to know what it looks like the second you do it. I want to know what it looks like 6 months from when you do it. So, the official update is this looks exactly the same as when I installed it. This is truly the most perfect renter friendly hack. It looks exactly the same and comes off clean. You can see here is the before with our builder grade mirror and the after. It just gives it such polish. I’ll link it below. Don’t be afraid because you’re looking around your home and going, “This is just not the place that I want to be.” You can do small little things that don’t have to cost a lot that make it absolutely beautiful. The ceramic and wood section has stepped it up and there are so many hidden organizers. I can’t wait to share with you how I use them. >> Because the truth is, I haven’t even showed you my favorite products yet in this video. I’m going to start down here with these beautiful leaf trays. If you have not yet created a drop zone when you come in for your keys and your sunglasses, this is so beautiful and only 125. Need some high-end organization on a budget? Come to the Valentine’s Day section. Look at these boxes. This is so beautiful for makeup, lipstick, jewelry. I’m so excited about this one. Yes, Dollar Tree, get it. I will say this, make sure whatever you purchase, you have a direct plan for. So, the person that I was helping today, I put all of her doggy doodoo bags in there as well as a flashlight. And this looks beautiful by her front door, and it really fits her aesthetic. Let go of what you don’t love to make room for what you do. I also adore these hooks. Now, these are wall art, but you could hang your keys on this. You could hang your purses on this, and it even has a hanger on the back. I would love to know where you’re working in your home. I really love pantries. I think that’s one of my favorite things to organize because if you start there, that makes a huge difference in the day-to-day flow of your home. Redoing a pantry means I want to have quality baskets. And Dollar Tree has two basket styles that are new right now. There’s this one. It’s $3. And they also have these kind of oblong shapes. This is awesome inside a pantry. Great for snacks. And they have larger round ones for $5. Again, nothing I’m going to use is going to be plastic. I’m scanning the aisles here just for some things that look vintage inspired. These candles, this is farmhouse cedar. They also have a beautiful vanilla cashmere. These are gorgeous. I hear from viewers all the time that they don’t have a pantry. Let me know in the comments if you have a pantry or if you created a makeshift one, what you use to make it work for you. My goal is that lots of these ideas, even if you don’t use all of them, could apply to something in your house or you see it and you go, “Oh my gosh, I could easily do that.” I love getting the mesh style containers that are made of metal from Dollar Tree as well. And did you know these fit eight cans perfectly? My goal in any pantry space is visibility, so you’re not rebying food. And I like to zone the pantry by different type of food so it’s easier to find. I have my vegetables, fish, beans, and I also have a section for snack foods as well as milk. And in any pantry space, I really like the round containers for fruit. I also think these would look really beautiful on a counter top, too. I made an entire shelf of pantry staples, from rice to lentils. And you can see I’m using the ball jar lids. You can see how beautiful these jars work together for your pantry staples as well. This would be so expensive if I purchased something like this on Amazon. everything looks really uniform. And I think in spaces like this where lots of hands are touching, uniformity is going to really help keep it organized. It’s actually possible to create and stock a full pantry for less than $100. I have to know below which of these shelves is your favorite or you feel like you could implement in your space cuz that’s what it’s all about. If you see it, don’t ask me where it’s from. It’s literally all from Dollar Tree. And yes, they shipped out the turntables recently to stores for 2026. I love the wine organizers from Dollar Tree, but I don’t use them for that. I use them for cups in the pantry. They’re great for water bottles. These containers, I have heard people comment like, “Yeah, but Walmart has a better quality. They’re better other places.” That has not been my experience. So, I spend a very long time testing out products at Dollar Tree and bringing you the best ones. The larger containers, in my experience, are just as sturdy as the Walmart brand, and they are several dollars cheaper. When you’re doing a large project like this, those few dollars can make a huge difference. Are you ready to see the pantry? Here is how it turned out. This looks awesome. I know Kathy is going to love this space. I think my favorite part over here are these water bottles in the tower and her cup dispensers. She has all of the amazing spot up here for all of her cake decorating things. And these containers over here are working so well. I love the combination of traditional acrylic pantry bins combined with this woven look. It just makes it look so nice and it really ties in with the drawers that she already had in here. I also love in the corner all of the lazy susans. These brand new bins at the bottom with snacks and cereals. And then we have the containers right by the door. The point is everything is visual. It’s easy to see, including these mason jars. Again, these are at like every Dollar Tree. They’re super easy to find. My secrets for helping things look cohesive is I want systems that are very easily interchangeable. And Dollar Tree definitely offers this when you are purchasing intentionally. And I teach you exactly how to do this in Fresh Start. So no matter what house you move to, these are systems that are going to last. And a favorite project from this year that a lot of you had a lot to say about was taking Dollar Tree books and using them for cutlery organizers. I think this looks so beautiful and whimsy at a countertop. I love this idea. You could thrift these books. You could use old books. But I will say this was one of the most polarizing ideas that I shared on my channel. There were some people that could not imagine doing this and others that ran to do it. All you need is a rubber band and a pretty bow of your choice. What do you think? A surprising place to check in Dollar Tree are their office organizing section. A lot of these acrylic containers are fantastic, and I want you to think outside of the box. So, I tend to use these in my fridge for organizing my apples, for organizing different fruit, and I also like using their magazine organizers in my freezer. Most stores have these and they actually clip together. So, this little edge fits right in with this edge here. I was actually today years old when I figured out that these were clip and lock, but total game changer in my freezer. It’s perfect. When it comes to your refrigerator, simple systems win. Everything in here is from the Dollar Tree, and man, does it work. I love these containers with handles on them. They also come in a clear version. They’re excellent in the top of your fridge. I used acrylic organizers for my cheese and all of the new colors this year. Now is the time to get those book containers, especially in your fridge. This is my real life refrigerator. The systems we actually use. It is so simple and I would encourage you to do the same. No matter what your setup is, this is our outdoor freezer. My drawers always end up so filled with crumbs. And what I love about this desktop vacuum is it’s $5, but it works so well. You can use this inside of a drawer and then you can organize it or you can use it on your countertop. And I love it because the kids can help clean up. I like to put googly eyes on mine. We named him Kevin. I also want to talk about the Dollar Tree tool section. Now, since they raised their prices slightly, they have really amped this area up. I think whoever purchased Dollar Tree or like became in control of that had some connection to the auto industry. And so, the auto stuff at Dollar Tree is so good right now. I want you to keep your eyes peeled for tools that are $5 and under. This will beat your local hardware store prices and things like cup holders for your car, especially if you got a new mug for Christmas. What I really like is you can expand or contract this to fit your cup size. So, if you’re ordering food out or you have a really large coffee mug like I do, and you can move it to be able to have extra storage depending on what your needs are. I thought this product was really great and I was impressed with the other car products that they had in store. Have you seen these? and cord organizers. These are chef’s kiss 10 out of 10. I use them all over my house. I was excited to test this out and it did not disappoint. I will say it only fits about one cord inside, but it is worth it. So, you don’t have all of those messy cords in the background. It’s great on cube shelves. It’s great in an office. These baskets are also new from the plus section at Dollar Tree. What do you think? I like to know these products that truly work. The auto vacuum, like the car vacuum, is fantastic. I have used this for almost a year now and it is absolutely worth the $5. I would love to know in the comments what spot of the house you are working on and I want to give you tons of motivation, inspiration. Can you relate to this room? So, this is at my friend Shauna’s house and she said her laundry room had just exploded. In fact, all of her closets had. She was feeling overwhelmed with where to start. She didn’t know how to tackle them. So, I said I would come over and give her a hand. And this is what I do in Fresh Start. It’s like having Catherine in your house to help you declutter and organize literally your entire home. This probably is from college. >> It’s a relic. It’s an antique. Ugg cleaner. >> This is Ugg cleaner that I mean I probably lived here when I got this >> and you haven’t used it. >> What if I want to clean my Uggs? What in the world is this? >> Everything you keep you have to find a way to store and remember that you have me. >> Okay. This is what friends do. >> This is great. You did really well. >> There’s truly something so freeing about simplifying your space. When life gets busy, the last thing you need is to waste time searching for things or feeling overwhelmed by clutter. And sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference. And one thing that we talk a lot about is the mental load. The mental load of all you have to think about in your home with your kids, schedules that we as women carry. And there’s something so beautiful about taking just a little bit of time to give your mind some much needed clarity because I think it can make all the difference. Oh my gosh, this is so much. Oh my god, there’s like space in here. I can move it around. >> That is so brilliant. >> Yes. So, you can grab it. It’s all there. >> That’s amazing. >> It’s funny. Sometimes the simple things that we haven’t taken the time to do that really can totally change a space. Organizing can be a form of self-care and it doesn’t have to be complicated. I like how clean and open this space is. And each area has a designated purpose. Clearing the clutter, getting organized, it’s a gift. And here’s how I truly know it actually will manifest itself in so many ways. Did you know that getting organized and having a clean space eliminates 40% of housework in the average home? That means every time you let something go, you say yes to yourself. You organize a space. You make it beautiful. You’re saving yourself time later. So, this is actually in my friend Julie’s house. This space before needed so much help and she was so overwhelmed. And here’s Julie seeing it for the first time. >> Oh my goodness, Catherine. Seriously, this is amazing. Oh my gosh. So, I used to walk in the garage door and I would literally look at this room and just close the door. I’m like, I can’t even. I just have to keep going. This is unbelievable. So, this is kind of a little sitting area where you can sit down. You can tie your shoes. You can grab what you have in here. What I tried to do was use what you already had. So, this green corkboard, I kind of tied it into some green elements with some blues. A little bit beachy, but not too much. And then these these little labels are just from Dollar Tree. They come with little clips on the back. And we just put this here for all of your stuff. So, you can see there’s room for hats. We have sports stuff. And then of course the pickle balls we have very important in this house >> because it looks so pretty. >> It looks so pretty. It’s like a room I want to hang out in. That’s crazy. And up at the very top in these Dollar Tree bins, this is stuff that she doesn’t get done all the time. But Julie, I’ve got you and you do. >> You awesome. I can actually reach the things in here. >> We shopped affordably. We kept it simple. And I feel like in spaces like this, less is almost always more. helping people and helping people feel like they can is kind of really my jam. And I want to share with you my favorite makeover of 2025 at Melissa’s house. So, this is Melissa and I am so excited to be here today because she really could use some organization. Welcome to Melissa’s bakery and dining room, also known as Crows Dough Central. She also has all of the storage for homeschool in this area. And really in Melissa’s house, every nook and cranny is filled with things for their businesses. And she didn’t know where to start. >> Um I was a teacher for 10 years and after I had my second child, um we decided I was going to stay home and then I got pregnant with my third and I was really going to stay home. Like I literally we’ve been here for almost 6 years and I really haven’t done much with it. This is the first step in that journey of like really loving your space. helping out this homeschool mom who runs an in-home micro bakery, making this spot hers. Crows do Central needed a complete makeover, and we had to do this on a budget. And that’s the thing. If you don’t have belief in yourself or you’re looking at your space going, I don’t know how to make this sparkle, think creatively. I decorated the back wall. I helped her organize everything for her business. These are curtain tiebacks for her rolling pins. I went to the Dollar Tree and I got these $1.25 books to create art on the wall. tool section from Dollar Tree. I told you the universal tool hooks are great. I think they look really rustic and super cool on the wall. If I could tell you one thing for 2026, it would be to invest in yourself. Something small. It doesn’t have to cost a lot. I spent less than $300 on this makeover, and I think it made all the difference. Open your eyes. Oh my god. Oh my gosh. It’s amazing. Beautiful. I’m so glad you love it. >> Oh wow. Oh my gosh. Yes. This is beautiful. This is so like my style, which I don’t really think I even have a style sometimes, but you >> I love it. You do. You’ll totally have a style. And you have all of your spices up here and your books and your like Croftton. >> That is so beautiful. >> Oh my gosh, it’s beautiful. >> Oh my gosh, it’s so beautiful. >> Oh my gosh. My own little grocery store. >> Mhm. >> You said you don’t didn’t feel like you have a clear style, but you totally do. Like it’s natural. It’s like made with love. It’s like farmtotable. It was so awesome to talk with Melissa and her husband about the joy that they get selling their micro greens and their baked goods. You have a gift that you bring to the world just by being you that is so unique and incredible. And you deserve to have a space that helps you bring that to life to let that shine. And remember, I am here to help. Just this week only, you get access to Fresh Start Power Week, plus for free my 30-day positive declutter challenge and all of the bonuses for cleaning routines, your capsule wardrobe, and whole house organization, my beautiful friend. It will be linked down below. And if nobody has told you today, guess what? You are enough. I can’t wait for more videos in the new year. Love you. Wide open.
