Between work, family, and enjoying everything Chicago has to offer, keeping your space clean can feel like a constant battle. Whether you’re maintaining your apartment cleaning routine or preparing for guests, these simple, effective tips will help you create a fresh, welcoming home without spending your entire weekend cleaning.
Start With a Decluttered Space
Before diving into deep cleaning, take a few minutes to tidy up. Put away items that are out of place, clear countertops, and gather any trash or recycling. This simple step makes the actual deep cleaning help much more effective and less overwhelming.
Your Quick Cleaning Game Plan
When time is limited, focus on what matters most. Here’s how to make the biggest impact in the shortest time:
- Start high, end low: Dust ceiling fans, shelves and light fixtures first, then work your way down to floors
- Focus on frequently used areas: Kitchen counters, bathrooms, and living spaces deserve priority attention
- Multitask wisely: Let cleaning products sit while you tackle another task
- Keep supplies handy: Store cleaning caddies in key areas to save time

I’m a Dollar Tree pro. Run to Dollar Tree. Grab these tins, glass jars, and these beautiful boxes. We’re going to dupe $100 of William Sonoma treats that people will love. The best candy in the entire store is the Dollar Tree peanut brittle, the pretzel bark and s’more bark, and their peppermint drizzled popcorn. Just trust me. Decant these into tins. These are going to look so expensive. And you did them for just a couple of dollars. They are properly addictive. Dollar Tree Paper Shred is great, and it makes even the simplest gifts feel special. Coming up, I’ll show you how to make candied oranges. But first, this William Sonoma dupe of peppermint snow. Put candy canes into a ziplockc bag, crunch them down, then decant into Dollar Tree jars. I like to give my little jars labels for a festive touch. And these mini jars are at Dollar Tree right now. Such a cute gift idea. You can do this for a few dollars. I promise this will wow. It’s a near direct William Sonoma dupe. To make the candied oranges, take one cup of water, one cup of sugar, dissolve the sugar in the water, and simmer sliced and clean oranges for about 40 minutes, flipping them a few times. Then you’re going to let them dry. You can speed up this process in the oven, slow and low, at 200°. Once they’re dry, I dipped mine in warm chocolate and then I added some sea salt to the top. You can put these straight into your Dollar Tree tins, William Sonoma style, on a Dollar Tree budget. Be sure to save this video so you don’t forget these ideas.
