Between the L train commute and deep-dish pizza nights, keeping your Chicago home clean can feel impossible. But what if we told you the secret to a fresh space might be hiding at your local Dollar Tree? Here’s how to transform cheap finds into cleaning gold (and when to call in the Chicago cleaning company pros).

The $119 Wreath Hack (That Doubles as a Cleaning Tool)

That gorgeous wreath you’ve been eyeing at boutique shops? Here’s how to DIY it for under $10 while creating a tool that helps with apartment cleaning:

  • Pool Noodle Magic: Connect the ends with duct tape to form a circle – this becomes your dusting tool base
  • Coffee Filter Power: The same filters that make your morning brew become amazing dust catchers when layered on the noodle
  • 60-Minute Transformation: Layer filters outward like petals (perfect podcast time!) for a tool that grabs dust from baseboards and blinds

Pro Tip From Our Cleaning Team

Spritz your DIY duster with a light vinegar solution to clean your apartment while freshening the air. The porous filters trap more dust than most store-bought options.

Dollar Store Finds That Beat Expensive Cleaners

When you need fast cleaning services but want to tackle spots yourself first:

  • Denture Tablets ($1/box): Drop one in your toilet bowl overnight for a no-scrub clean
  • Loofahs ($1): Cut up for the perfect grout-scrubbing tool

When DIY Isn’t Enough (We’ve Got You)

While these hacks are great for maintenance, sometimes you need deep cleaning help from experts who know Chicago’s unique challenges (we’re looking at you, radiator dust and window soot).

  • Commercial-grade equipment that outperforms dollar store finds
  • Customized approaches for Chicago apartments and brownstones

i saved $119 buying coffee filters and a pool noodle from Dollar Tree I’m not kidding I love a good coffee filter craft and you can’t mess this up Connect the two ends of the pool noodle together with duct tape And then grab three packs of coffee filters They’re 125 each I put a pen through the center added a dab of hot glue and glued it around the outside of the pool noodle Now this looks really tragic right now but just stick around It’s going to look awesome This is really easy to do You just slowly work up layer by layer adding coffee filters And if you’re wondering how long this takes I had the luxury of filming myself so I knew it took me exactly an hour and 10 minutes Then I trimmed down the excess and oh my gosh I had this amazing wreath that y’all actually looks like the $119 original I’m obsessed with these large scale bows and they’re like $80 Friends I got all of my ribbon from Dollar Tree The Voila brand is my favorite I use zip ties to make a bow and then I added some longer strands of ribbon to the center just to give it a little bit more oomph I love how customizable this is I also decided to make a pink one because I had some additional ribbon sitting at home I singed the ends so they wouldn’t fray And then I just used more duct tape on the back to attach the ribbon And I can change this out for any season This wreath is so big so stately especially on the front door I think this would look great inside too I love the inspiration and I think I nailed it Save this video if you want to try this too It’s so easy
